Digital Intern – Summer 2024

The Position

We’re seeking a part-time digital intern to support our work helping Democratic candidates up and down the ballot raise money and mobilize supporters. As a paid intern, you’ll learn the ins and outs of campaign digital fundraising tools, compose written content for campaigns, get hands-on experience executing digital strategy, and contribute your skills to some of the most important races of the 2024 election.

Ascend is a leading Democratic digital firm that works with candidates up and down the ballot and non-profit organizations engaged on causes including climate preservation, campaign finance reform, and labor rights. We work in partnership with our clients to package their unique story into digital content that is both compelling and data-driven — motivating the right people to read, to listen and, most importantly, to act. That means meeting our audience where they are, not where we wish they were!

Responsibilities & Expectations

As a digital intern, you will:

  • Use HTML to load and format campaign emails and text messages;
  • Draft and proofread content on behalf of Democratic candidates and campaigns; and
  • Assist with client account management, including tracking and reporting performance, updating calendars and spreadsheets, and other administrative tasks.

You can also expect to:

  • Receive training and mentoring directly from Ascend partners and senior management;
  • Learn both the skills and software involved in digital campaign work as well as how digital fits within each campaign’s broader goals; and
  • Contribute ideas, ask questions freely, and explore specific areas of our firm’s work that are of interest to you

Qualifications

  • Strong writing, editing, and proofreading skills;
  • Demonstrated commitment to helping Democrats win elections and a desire to learn the ins and outs of campaign digital work;
  • Positive attitude, flexibility, and ability to work productively both independently and as part of a team;
  • Tech-savviness and ability to learn new systems is a big plus, though no coding skills are required.

Compensation & Terms

  • Position pays $25/hr.
  • Part-time position — 10-15 hours/wk. Timing can be flexible based on your schedule, so long as it’s during regular business hours.
  • Applicants must be based in the Washington, D.C. metro area for the summer. This is a largely in-person position based in our D.C. office.
  • The internship term will run from approximately June 3 to Aug. 30, 2024, with potential to extend to a fall internship through Election Day. Again, we can be flexible to fit your schedule.
